How To Become a Certified Scuba Diver
Phase 1: Orientation / Classroom and Pool Instruction
Scuba diving lessons are broken into two units. These lessons are offered year-round at indoor pool facilities. The program begins at Professional Diving Resources with a class orientation. Typically, there are approximately 18-20 hours of classroom and pool training.

Complete liability paperwork including medical questionnaire

Discuss course materials and provide a curriculum overview
Fitting for core diving equipment**
Classroom and pool training:
Review digital training material
Pool training: students learn the basics of scuba diving in a controlled water setting
Missing a class can result in additional fees
Training material:
The Digital training manual contains 6 chapters with video segments,
study-guide questions at the end of each chapter (you must score 100% to move on to next chapter)
Final exam will be administered by instructor during classroom review.
Phase 2: Open Water Certification
Upon completion of the classroom & pool training, you need to finalize your scuba certification, this can be done by completing 2 days of open water certification dives.
This certification takes place over a two-day period, where you complete two dives each day for a total of four open water dives.
Your open water dives must be completed within 12 months, following the classroom / pool instruction.
*If you wait more than 12 months you will need to participate in an additional pool-training dive, before completing the certification dives, which may result in additional fees.
The Open Water Certification can be done locally during the warmer months (at White Star Quarry approximately 1.5 hours west of Professional Diving Resources), by referral on a vacation, or with Professional Diving Resources on one of our scheduled trips.
Pricing Overview
Pricing Overview for Base Requirements:
1. Class/pool training 18-20 hours including equipment rental ~ $255
2. Course materials (digital material, logbook, digital certification card) ~ $165
3. CORE diving equipment (mask, snorkel, boots, fins, mesh bag, defog) ~ $280
Open Water Certification dives / equipment rental fee for two days ~ $250
Subtotal ~ $950
There are NO REFUNDS on classes if not completed...
Additional Costs:
Accommodations: During Open Water Certification weekends, students are responsible for their own overnight accommodations.
Equipment: While rental equipment is included in the $219 dive fee, it is the responsibility of the student, to pick up the gear, transport it to White Star Quarry, and then return it to Buckeye the following Monday.
*Damage to equipment or failure to return equipment may result in additional fees.
*White Star Quarry is privately owned and operated. You will have to pay entry fees to get into the Quarry. Their pricing begins below:
o $20/day entry fee
o $10/per air fill
o $30/day per camp site or additional lodging fees for hotel
Equipment:
Gloves: begin at $30 and are available at our dive shop
Transportation: It is the responsibility of the student to transport equipment to and from classes as well as the Open Water Certification Dives.
Wetsuit: Is not required but strongly recommended. Body heat is lost 25x quicker in the water than air. We offer a 3mm wetsuit for purchase to keep you warm in the pool & during your certification dives.
Retail price starts at $198, for scuba certification students the price is only $149.99.
After Certification:
Once you have completed your Open Water Certification dives you are now a certified Scuba Schools International (SSI) diver.
The first 25 – 50 dives are crucial, it's not until after these first dives that you will settle into the flow of things, and become fully comfortable scuba diving.
As a certfied diver you'll want to purchase your own diving system and life support equipment so you are comfortable and enjoy diving. Your certification will never expire. If you do not dive for several years you may be asked to take a refresher course. Once you are a diver, you're always a diver.
